Dealing With Dark Spots? This In-Office Treatment Just Might Be the Answer

If there’s one thing that keeps us from going makeup-free 100-percent of the time, it’s those conspicuous dark spots. Naturally radiant skin is on our constant list of beauty goals, but to get there, we need to tackle hyperpigmentation.

The most common causes of discoloration include aging, inflammation and, of course, sun exposure. (For more information on dealing with dark spots at home, check out our blog post on the causes of and at-home treatments for hyperpigmentation here). And while at-home products like vitamin C serums and kojic acid are an effective way to continuously diminish the appearance of dark spots, there’s one routine treatment that can be especially impactful: In-office Lasers.

And leading the charge in the skin rejuvenation laser category is the celeb-favorite Clear + Brilliant.

Clear + Brilliant Laser for Dark Spots

This gentle resurfacing laser addresses early signs of facial aging—targeting tone, texture and dark spots. One of our most popular lasers, the 15-20 minute treatment is not only extremely effective in treating even the darkest and most difficult discolorations, but it also improves the appearance of fine lines (and pores). It can also make for increased absorbency of topical skincare.

How Does it Work?

By creating microscopic treatment zones in the upper layers of the skin, the laser replaces damaged skin with healthy tissue and produces a younger-looking appearance. One of our favorite parts about this laser is how mild the treatment is while yielding such dramatic results—there’s little to no recovery, and you can see a brighter and improved complexion in under 30 minutes (come on your lunch break!). While you may see some redness for a few days, it’s far milder than other fractional lasers that can result in weeks of peeling.

Additionally, unlike many other lasers on the market, Clear + Brilliant can be used on patients with deeper complexions.

Cost: $350

Number of Treatments: The number of treatments is tailored to your concerns and skincare desires, but our aestheticians typically recommend a series of six treatments, followed by quarterly maintenance.

How to Prevent Dark Spots

While lasers can become a routine part of your skincare maintenance, prevention of future hyperpigmentation is also important. Use SPF regularly (a broad spectrum SPF 30+ every morning) and limit your sun exposure. If you do those two things, most brown spots won’t pop up to begin with! If you can’t help but be in the sun, regular sunscreen application and hats or other skin coverage in sunlight will also keep future discoloration at bay.
